IF LIFE WERE TO REMAIN STILL (PART TWO)

As my phone rang, I aimed shockingly to grab it and see for myself who was calling in such an irregular hour. It was some minutes after 3am. My instincts told me that something was amiss. 

All through the night I was shivering, awaiting the terror that lingers with the coming of daybreak. Leaving mom at about 11pm at the hospital, I was scared of what situation I would find her in the next morning.

But before then, for a yet unrealised reason, I insisted on calling dad. He needed to be aware of the recent transfer of mom to a special unit where patients require an uninterruptible access to oxygen, I concluded. He came and we served her well; my sister, I, my brother, Sa'ad, and father.

We all massaged her feet and palms in rounds as we waited for the exact time (9:05pm) of giving her food after the insulin injection (a medication given to diabetic patients when their sugar level is not stable).

We were all listening to the sound of the oxygen machine as mom smiled often, narrating what had happened - as though it was a regular matter - before dad and I got in. She explained boldly how she thought she would be in a comma when her breathing level dropped to fifty. "It is eighty now", she said in her attempt to calm us down. Her situation seemed critical, but her face refused to portray sorrow. I was amazed at her sick face. It was uniquely bright. It was cheerful. It was lively. The dull mood faded, until when, time to time, she pointed that her inhaler should be given to her.

Doctors rushed after every short while to check on her health. They were lenient with us - it was a special room and we were not supposed to crowd it, but we did, and they allowed it - probably for a foreseen reason. Maybe they suspected some inevitable fate. It was neither the asthma, nor the diabetics that was in their reach to cure. They were meant to help; but as such a time, they happened to be helpless.

Dad filled in the gaps of mom's fingers with his own fingers and assured her that all the suffering would become history. After all, it was all planned before we were born. And she was lucky to have a strong mind that regarded this divine test as a decree.

My sister, Na'ima, opened a bottle water and poured a small amount, as ordered by dad, so that he would say a prayer and let it be the first thing she would drink when it was time for her to be fed. Soon after, Na'ima (Pretty), poured out a half cup of plain sweetened milk in a cup that was held by me. I let her drink it bit by bit until the cup was empty. We together consoled her.

I recited to her some prayers and she repeated after me, in a notable slow voice. I never thought it would be the last time I would do that. I was relieved, especially when we recited together the best prayer for forgiveness. I intended to do that in the next morning to make her gain the forgiveness of Allah, as expressed by the Prophet to be effective as long as one recites at dust and passes away before daybreak and vice versa (Alas! the daybreak was to be out of her destined time). Lastly, I recited to her the 'Kalimatusshada'.

It will forever remain within my recollection the last wave she waved at me after several warnings to me, all through the day, to look after my health, and also, directed me to bring her clean and comfortable clothes she would wear in the next morning; but only to find out later that the clean and comfortable clothes were to be nothing but a white fabric with which she was dressed in to her grave.

I left the hospital only because I had no other option. It was our aunty, Lubabatu and Naima that were destined to witness mom's peaceful departure to the afterworld, answering the call of her Lord.

If life were to remain still, then she would have lived longer to see the return of her own child, whom she was to him a ladder, and to her a darling, dressed in the white Navy outfit, which she thought would fit him right. If only life were to remain still, then she would have lived longer to see what would become of us, her own, now bereaved, three children, Na'ima, Mahmood and Sa'ad.

Often, we get absorbed into our daily activities until we become lost in them, and therefore, fail to remember certain calamities that are hidden, and for sure to explode, at some fated points of our lives. To almost all - including you, perhaps - an opportunity arrives only when it is destined to reach us, and hardly a thing that stays usually with us.

Only a few are blessed with the ability to realise proximate treasures they were endowed with. Vast majority believe that an opportunity is something far-fetched. I, myself, had being a usual upholder of this mediocre thought. But as the days passed, turning into years, I gave in to the idea, (thanks to the discretion that comes with age) and yes, with every certainty that opportunities don't seize to overflow towards us, at almost all the time of our existence, especially when we are safe and healthy.

Most of us see health as one valuable element of a peaceful living. Some see it as rather a gift and a significant opportunity. The few individuals with the latter perception are the ones either taught by wit or by one circumstance of life or the other.

They say experience is the best teacher. Who needs no other proof than myself, who is now staring at the ceiling of hospital traveling the world of thoughts from one edge to another? It frightens me to believe what rather seems like a nightmare. I'm scared to look down so as not let a tear drop and cause trouble. The place is not a peaceful one: the smell, the sound and the sight (in short, every aspect of it). If looking at the walls alone is terrifying, then what more of looking at my own mother lying on a bed, surrounded by sophisticated medical tools. Good health, indeed, is a gift. I remember that, in the past, life was not so still; but it never got worse the way it is now.

After every while of thinking, approximately every minute, I look at her face, renowned for its beauty, now darkened by illness, and recount the many many lingering dreams that were hung unquenched by countless twists of fate. She suffered not a small number of tests in her life yet never failed to recognise the essence of living. Apart from health, no other factor is so powerful to hinder her from making the most productive use of her time.

If life were to remain still, then she would have loaded quite a number of great achievements atop her already triumphant records; the records I will continue to unveil all through this unavoidable battle with disharmony.

The reasons i keep criticizing Buhari

A good leader should be proactive,A good leader should have plans long-term/short-terms,A good leader should always prioritize his subjects before any other thing,A good leader should asertain what's achievable within his period of reign,A good leader must always sees the completion of every tasks assigned. These are common attitudes of a good leader which no one can say otherwise no matter how blindly inclined you are to anyone.

The above mentioned yardstick are undoubtedly missing in Buhari's dormain.

Let's take a tour through his laxity: When the president catechized the head of services on the insurgency raining in the northeast the out come of that "holy meeting" was "soon insurgency shall be overcome in the north" to some extend things halted but not too comforting when the story change again. Several attacks were carried out on civilians sometimes military. The transfer of head of services to Maiduguri was a good gesture from the president nonetheless,the scenerio needed more than that as there was failure to curtail the insurgency.

Shamelessly,Chad had to rescued some of our gallant soldiers (May the souls of soldiers lost in keeping Nigeria safe be honored by God). A country that's less to us in almost everything you can mentioned. How did they do it? There president doesn't sit all day reading papers and giving languid speeches,he stood to the treat,fully focus until he overcome. Now that's yet to be harness from Buhari.

From his first tenure in office Buhari must have enough time to figure out the bad eggs in his basket. From this #EndSars protest it's clear evident that the chain of benevolence was extended from the presidency and such allotments had been slice by some of the bad eggs in his basket and he couldn't see because he thought it's same Nigeria he ruled before. Well it's not! And i bet the perpetrators will go free.

How often do you see dynamism and adaptations as ingredients to modern leadership?

Well they're...well they are very pertinent considering you can't stage a successful military coup now that everyone is radio and Tv stations unlike before. There are lots of inadvertency in your government that could have been avoided if only you dance to the tune of reality.

I remember the first few months you took over power,there was this tranquility, accountable and self judgement that gives the nation fresh air but all was futile because you approach Nigeria's problem primately.

Baba nothing is fine! Not even the anointed ministers you took months to announced are doing your biddings, the north are criticizing Fashola for doing little in there region as minister of power,the Mambila hydropower which by your saying should almost be up and running but it's stilled and the north fault Fashola because he wouldn't execute a project that will develop the north similarly Adamu Adamu was on the sword edge for the thousands appointments he gave to northerners (well mostly Guddurawa) and both allegations may likely be truth but what did you do?

Most of the states these ministers come from are not happy with their representations.

 You don't expect me to remind you that most of these governors doesn't fit in same show with you or willing to change Nigeria as you claim. Adapt a way to live with people you don't agree on things not to sit there and watch the people (who actually voted for you) suffer.

Well it shouldn't be a surprise to me, when you condole foreign nations and forgot Zamfara,Borno,Yobe and even your home state Katsina.

Buhari i criticize you because you find comfort in honesty the majority believe you exhibit.Well Sir!,even though honesty is a quality of good a leader,

Nigeria requires more than that to work as a nation.

From omnicompetence to incompetence your concerns towards the common man keeps diminishing.

And this is all happening because of your laxity or do you blame the citizens who have faithed in you to fight for there common needs?.

 Despite knowing your time is limited but you rule as if you have forever,no wonder they call you "Baba Go slow".

You simply can not take this nation for granted. These elite class most of them fought to denied you power. Many of them don't want sons of nobody to be somebody. Now it's time to show you belong to everybody and you belong to nobody.

When you were born, you cried while the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a way that when you die, the world cries while you rejoice. We are living in an age when we have forgotten what life is all about. We have lost touch with humanity. We have lost touch with our purpose. We have lost sight of the things that matter the most.

Humanity. Did you know what Humanity means??

Humanity means caring and helping others whenever and wherever possible. Humanity means helping others at times when they need that help the most. Humanity means forgetting our selfish interest at times when others need our help. Humanity means extending unconditional love to each and every living being on Earth. One doesn't need a hefty bank account to contribute towards humanitarian development. Paying our domestic help fairly is humanity. Lifting the heavy bag for an old person is humanity. Helping disable person to cross the road is humanity. Helping your mom in chores is also humanity. In fact, helping anyone who is in need is humanity. As soon as we understand the importance of humanity in our day-to-day life, the purpose for which we are on Earth is Automatically fulfilled.

My Brothers and Sisters. Are you reading this?? If you are, I'm respectfully asking you: Who will cry when you die? How many lives will you help while you have the privilege to walk this planet? What impact will your life have on the generations that follow you? What legacy will you leave behind after you have taken your last breath? One of the greatest lessons I learned in my own life is that; if you don't act on life, life has a habit of acting on you. The days slip into weeks, the weeks slip into months, and the months slip into years. Pretty soon it's all over, and you are left with nothing more than a heart filled with regret over a life half-lived. So it's a must to compile good deeds to go before Allah (S W T)

Someone was asked on his death bed: "What would you do, if you could live your life over again?" He reflected, and said with a deep sigh: " I'd like to be the person i could've been, but never was." This is what death does to a person. Your position will be taken, your wealth will be shared, your wives will remarry. My brothers and sisters your BF's and GF's will move-on. And with time, you'll be wholly forgotten. Only few will remember you in their prayers. So you need to take action (Do good) before the four strong men take you to the cemetery.

I know someone might ask; how can I simplify so that I can enjoy the journey of life before it's too late? Don't worry, I have your answer. FIND YOUR CALLING, I believe, we all have special talents that one just waiting to be engage in a worthy pursuit. We're all here in this mankind for some unique purpose, some noble objectives that will allow us to manifest our highest human potential, while we at thesame time add values to the lives around us. Finding your calling doesn't mean you must quit your job or anything you have now. It simply means you need to bring more of yourself into work and focus on the things you do best. It means you need to stop waiting for others to make the changes you desire. " BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE MOST IN YOUR WORLD" And once you do, I guarantee, our lifes will change.

NORTH MUST GET IT RIGHT!

Why do we keep saying; North and South? It tells us that there are divisions. There is a sharp, wide and bitter bridge between Northern and Southern Nigeria, we know. The North is deeply impoverished; the South is far more prosperous. But who is milking the North?

North is a region that is undoing itself by looking other side of its natural endowments. Despite the existence of many economic resources like; tin, kaolin, a variety of agricultural produce and enormous fertile land. Paradoxically, the people remain in abject poverty – leading to multifaceted crises of insurgency, electoral violence and other forms of crime. 

What's the North doing with this enormous land? The region needs to prioritise agriculture, trade, industry and general infrastructure. Doing this will corroborate the effort of Sir Ahmadu Bello initiation of industrialisation– the textile mills, groundnut mills.

On Politics, no doubt that the Northern region has put forward, several versatile and well known politicians and nationalists. These people have made it to the stardom and are fully recognised and engaged within and outside the continent.

After the independence, Nation's only Prime minister  (Sir. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa) came from the North. , late Sir. Ahmadu Bello who had played a very vital role in ensuring a secured  Nigeria in terms of security, development, education, health and transportation –which we still find useful today.

A quick flashback to military rule in Nigeria, we had several republic like other African Nations but North had produced 1/3 of heads of state we had. To mention ;  Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Gen. Murtala Muhammad, Gen. Sani Abacha, Gen. Muhammad Buhari, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar among others are all products of sickening North. Though, they have contributed greatly and left a beautiful legacies behind. Their giant efforts are second to none as far as Nigeria is concerned.

On the other hand, to Democratic dispensations, Late. Shehu Shagari was a northerner, Late. Umaru Musa Yar'adua and President Muhammad Buhari are people from the region. On political opportunities, The Northern region has held and still holding many prestigious and influential positions. It is previleged to have produced capable heads of MDAs, heads of security agencies. 

It first produced PTF and EFCC boss. Among other merciful positions we have had include; a CBN Governor from Kano State, Sunusi Lamido Sunusi; INEC Chairmen from Kebbi, Prof. Attahiru Jega and Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, the current INEC boss from Bauchi states. The recent past Senate presidents,  Bukola Saraki from Kwara state and the current president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawal, from Yobe State belong to the region. It is also fortunate to have had the former the 8th and 6th National Assembly Speakers, Ghali NaAbba and Dogara Yakubu. Why shouldn't North get it right? With human and natural resources?

When it comes to affluence and businesses people, we have the likes of Aliko Dangote, Abdulsamad Isyaka Rabiu, Mangal, Rahmaniya, among other prominent business moguls who are recognised globally are all northerners for their landmark achievements. Having Aliko Dangote as the richest man in Africa is, without doubt, worthy of pride. The north is blessed with rare privileges.

Northern Nigeria is a land of knowledge and wisdom. To clarify this; Late. Aminu Kano was a political activist, Sir. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was named the Golden voice of Africa for his excellent English accent, Late. Maitama Sule was a political and socio analyst, activist, unionist; Prof. Iya Abubakar would not be forgotten, Sa'adu Zungur, Bakari Dukku, are all knowledgeable people. It is said that those with knowledgeable people lead and are the best in a way of life. 

Furthermore, we have been blessed with talented individuals such as Prof. Ango Abdullahi, Hon. Faruk Adamu Aliyu, Engr. Buba Galadima, Late Abba Kyari among others. For the technocrats, who have traversed the different political evolution and who have shown boldly that they care for the north, we have former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Ex-Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal, Nasir El-Rufai, Abdullahi Ganduje, Bala Muhammed (Kauran Bauchi), Ibrahim Dankwambo among others. Later in the subsequent piece, I will provide my reasons for saying they care for the North. 

With 56.4 per cent of the country's population according to 1922 Census, the first after Nigeria was amalgamated, yet the North is left behind, we got no father nor shoulder to cry on. One imagines why the North is deep in insecurity, business failure, redundancy, failed education system, tribal war and uncertain tomorrow?

Why? The former Emir of Kano, Sanusi once said, “If the North does not change, the North will destroy itself”. And yes we are at the verge of destroying the very fabric of our social structure, if we don't think long and deep with a view to revolutionising our barrage of problems.

The problems the northern part is having ranging from educated illiterate who leading us, religious leaders who mislead us because of the mischievous greediness, politicians who have no plant for us except for themselves and their kinsmen, educated people who hide their knowledge because they don't want their students to triumph. 

Think of how blessed we have been since independence to have produced high caliber of persons who ruled over, yet our hospitals are like zoo. Our schools are like parks, our roads are in bad shape, health sector was poorly suffering and educational setback is consuming us. 

It is oblivious that presently, 81 percent of Buhari’s appointees are Northerners, we have the Minister of Defence and yet peace have failed to restore in the north, banditry, kidnappings, rapes are all matter of discussion. The Education minister came from the blessed north, I wonder why some schools and classes are not too conducive for learning. Facts show that some of President's capital projects are taken to the south or even executed but what has the north gained after all the efforts we made to ensure his victory?

Having the likes of talented and well educated people in the north, who have extraordinary wealth of experience could be said to be unfair, for we were left in the pool of illiteracy and we can't even dare to secure a way out of it. Because as far as we try, those leaders will get us back. 

Back then, with their F9 in WAEC and NECO, they were opportune to get work in the government but now instead of them to render same services with your upper credit in Diploma or HND they will reject you and dump you only because of the mindset that you will overshadow them. 

In the South, a politician can sponsor 10,000 students to study and be good products only because they want their future to be great. A good example is Rochas Foundation that spreads across the Country. I once asked, Does south have Almajiris or rejected children who are exposed to poverty and negligence of parents? I answered myself no, A question again I asked myself  is "was Rochas richer, nicer than many richest persons in the north" if not why only him. 

To talk of the Almajiris, the Jonathan administration had built 19 almajiris school in the north, in sympathy to the children and to carter for their needs and be under guard and control. 

Again, The Jonathan government built 6 federal universities in the north, only to strengthen the level of education in arewa land and to see that we have a brighter future ahead. Yes, we have some people who care for the north but only been criticised by the masses. Atiku Abubakar have provided job opportunities to hundreds of thousand youth in the country particularly in the north, Rabiu Kwankwaso has sponsored over 15, 000 students to study in and outside the country. 

Because kwankwaso once said, the north had fallen, the only way it would rise again is to have educated leaders of tomorrow. Kudos to you sir, Atiku and Kwankwaso have exhibited their efforts and its highly appreciated. 

Again, Gov. Elrufai of Kaduna state has done something impressive, he ensured that in kaduna no quack teacher is allowed to teach students, indeed that will help the students to have sound knowledge. Governor Bala Mohammed has also shown youth inclusion in governance by appointing over 10 youths into his cabinet, that will pave the way for the youth to excel.

Another issue of concern is that,  our religious leaders only care for themselves to get money for their children and create chaos in the name of religion and mislead us, we don't understand this untill now.

Unless we rediscover ourselves and learn a lesson from our failures, the north will be the worst place to live on Earth. We need to understand the value and power of education. Our well to do individuals should invest in education. However, much education consumes, paying off is assured.

It's pertinent to take exploration into the annals of our glory days when Nigeria was great ruled by great men of honour and patriotism, with a view to emulating them. Only when this happens the North will resusitate its greatness.

BAUCHI ROYAL FATHER , 10 YEARS ON THE THRONE

His Royal Highness The Emire of Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu  was born in 14/10/1970 in "Kobi" a popular area in Bauchi that's where the royal family are traditionally known to reside. He attended Kobi primary School between 1976-1982 from their he moved to Government College Toro between 1982-1987.

He obtained an NCE certificate from Abubakar Tatari Ali Polythecnic and moved to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University all in Bauchi where he secured his first degree in Building Technology.

The young Emire was a school teacher at Government Day Secondary School Kofar Wambai in the year 1995 to 1996.

He was employed in the Nigerian Port Authority were he worked for 4years between 2002 to 2006.

In the year 2007 he changed place of work to Sao Tome and Principle under the federal ministry of foreing affairs.

 After the dead of his father he was chosen to be the emire on 30th July 2010.

The emire of Bauchi is bless with a wife Hajiya Murjanatu  and six children which are;

1.Fatima(Taqiyyah)

2. Aisha (Amatullah)

3. Sulaiman (Muhsin)

4. Hassana

5. Hussaini

6. Zainab

On 30th July 2020, HRH celebrate 10years on the throne.

In these years the emire was instrumental in lots of achievements

10years of peaceful coexistence in Bauchi Emirate.

10years of improve agricultural production.

10years of business and craftsmen advancement.

10years of harmony coordination between religious and ethnic groups in the emirate.

10 years of synergy in working with all the democratically elected governments which yielded evident democratic dividends.

The emire received a Doctorate Degree from Crescent University in Abeokuta and he's the Pro-Chancellor of Bauchi State University Gadau. The emire was Amirul Hajj for five years in the state.

The Bauchi State Emirate is historic and phenomenal in the establishment of Kingship and advancement of Islam in the northern region and struggles of Dan Fodio.

 The throne have house some excellent rulers

  These rulers are as follows:

1. Sarki Yakubu the first ruler who spend 40years on the throne

2. Sarki Ibrahim spent 32 years on the throne

3. Sarki Usman spent 5years 

4. Sarki  Ummaru spent 20years on the throne

5. Muallayidi spent 1year on the throne

6. Sarki Hassan spent 4years on the throne

7. Sarki Yakubu II spent 34years on the throne

8. Sarki Yakubu III spent 14years on the throne

9. Sarki Adamu Jumba spent 28years on the throne.

10. Sarki Sulaiman spent 28years.

11. Sarki Rilwanu the 11th ruler and the current emire of the kingdom.
