YOUTH SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN POLITICS

In the area of political participation, eligibility for national parliament starts at 25 years old or older in a third of all countries. About 1.6 percent of parliamentarians around the world are in their twenties. Young people between the ages of 15 and 25 constitute a fifth of the world’s population, according to UN Youth. Facts prove the necessity of a young generation that is more engaged, that leads toward a higher quality of democratic governance.
Youth engagement is one of the buzzwords in the youth development field. Similar terms are youth voice, youth involvement, youth participation, and youth in governance.
A simple but difficult question then follows: why should youth participate in politics and what are the benefits of their involvement?
What does youth engagement mean?
Youth engagement is the result when young people are involved in responsible, challenging actions to create positive social change. This means involving youth in planning and in making decisions that affect themselves and others.
Youth engagement happens in youth-adult partnerships that are structured so that both groups contribute, teach, and learn from each other.
Why is youth engagement important?
Youth engagement is a central principle of youth development. According to the ecological perspective of human development, young people are agents of their own development. Youth are more than passive recipients of external influences; instead they are actively involved in shaping their development by interacting with the people and opportunities made available within their environments. Through youth engagement, communities can do a better job of creating the services, opportunities, and supports that young people need to develop in healthy ways. Youth engagement offers community leaders the expertise and partnership of young people, helping adults fully understand what it is like to grow up in a rapidly changing world. From a political point of view, youth engagement is important because young people deserve the right to represent their own interests. Youth civic engagement is also critically important to prepare young people to be active citizens in a democracy.
What are the benefits of youth engagement?
-Youth engagement is a win-win proposition.
- people benefit by gaining skills, knowledge, self-esteem, and connectedness.
-Adults benefit by enhancing their own competencies, learning to better understand and value youth, and increasing their commitment and energy to their organizations.
-Organizations benefit by improving their programs, gaining community recognition, and attracting funders.
-Communities benefit by improving quality of life, coordinating youth services, and authentically embracing diversity by representing young people.

CYBER FRAUD INSIGHTFUL APPROACH, THE NIGERIAN CYBER FRAUD DETERMINATION

By Ibrahim Aliyu Gwaram
(Rassbow Design)
The introduction of computer and internet into financial transaction facilitates the speedy growth and development of business transaction globally. This is because computer and internet can rapidly change the world of commerce and banking leading to economic development of any nation, both at national and international level. Specifically, internet can make business grow faster and more efficient as it allows people to provide more personalized services to the user or customer. This however, makes it possible for financial services providers to have develop new strategies of adding value and distinguish themselves from the former way of commoditized financial transactions. The use of computers also has assisted many organizations for keeping the records of their customers. Both financial and nonfinancial organizations’, particularly banks are using computers for maintaining accounts and managing financial transactions. It helps the banks in providing online facility to enable the customers to check their account balance through the use of internet. Many organizations through computer and internet can make financial transaction online very easily and quickly with computerized systems as it facilitates payment of bills, making withdrawal without going through long queue at bank's counter, managing their home budgets and other financial transactions.
In spite of these numerous advantages of the use of computer and internet on financial transactions, it has posed danger to businesses, individuals, groups, institutions and states as criminals use the computer for negative activities. Generally, Cyber fraud are the work of skilled technicians who apply the knowledge of information and communication technology (ICT) through computer and internet for criminal activity. This means it is the handwork of those who are believed to be terrestrial or conventional fraudsters who metamorphosed into harness digital technology in furtherance of criminal objectives. It can be committed by individual, groups, organizations and state.  This to a great extent poses challenges to the law enforcement agencies in terms of investigation and prosecution. Cyber criminals around the world hook on the Net to penetrate into the financial transactions of businesses to the detriment of their customers, and this poses danger on the investment or wealth of individual, group, institution and economy of a nation as a whole. Consequently, cyber fraud also involves the use of computer and internet facility and as such, the law enforcement agencies in dealing with these types of criminal cases need to have the basic knowledge of computer forensics education, digital forensics education, digital investigation education, accounting education and law enforcement knowledge. Therefore, the study examines the three agencies (EFCC, ICPC and Antifraud section of Nigeria Police Force) in Nigeria who are charged with the responsibility of investigating and prosecuting all forms of frauds including cyber fraud to determine whether they have the requisite knowledge and skills in order to overcome the challenges posed to individual, group, institution and government by cyber fraudster in Nigeria. The recent increase of financial crimes both national and international community using information and communication technology (ICT) facilities such as computers and internet in the perpetration   of criminal activities like credit card frauds, ATM frauds, phishing, identity theft, spamming and a host of other crimes has attributed to the view that ICT is contributing to all forms of cyber fraud in both financial and non-financial sector of the Nigerian economy. This has challenged the intelligence, competence, knowledge, skills and abilities of the law enforcement agencies in Nigeria. In line with the objectives of this study, the following hypotheses have been formulated in null form: Computer forensic knowledge has no significant impact on the cyber fraud investigation in Nigeria. Digital forensic knowledge has no significant influence on the cyber fraud investigation in Nigeria. Accounting knowledge has no significant impact on the cyber fraud investigation in Nigeria. Law enforcement education has no significant influence on the cyber fraud investigation in Nigeria. Attending workshops, seminars and conferences have no significant impact on cyber fraud investigation in Nigeria.

NOT JUST A RAPISTS, THE FIGHT IS AGAINST US ALL

As time goes on, people will start to believe that the whole idea of fighting rapists in northern Nigeria is a mere pretension. Perhaps not because we love or support the heinous act, but the simple fact that, we only register our interest to fight a rapist when the victim is a complete stranger. This might seem weird, and to many an unproven assertion. Nevertheless, it is not only true, the cluelessness is starting to become a grounded tradition in northern Nigeria.

Some weeks ago, amidst the holy month of Ramadan, a sister, Mariya, who happens to be a medical student got a report from a fellow medical student resident in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi state that, a three year old girl was heartlessly raped by an adult, as a result of which she suffered a 'three degree tear'. As I write this, I believe he has access to relevant documents to support the aforementioned. He narrated how the parents were devastated and vulnerable. How they refused to lodge a complaint with a police station due to their financial handicap. Such was an awry experience not only for the parents, but all persons present there, yes! Including you, the person reading this. That was the situation that set ablaze the heart of Mariya's mate to fight against whoever the rapist was, and to give all the necessary support that would mitigate the consequences of the heinous act against the victim.

He told Mariya about it, and within a very short while, a team of which I was part of was formed. We took up the matter, and traced through the victim's medical record the victim's father. He was at first an easy going person, maybe because he thought we were just pretending to fight the case, the truth of which came to negate his thoughts. He told us that, they had no suspect whatsoever thinking we'll let go of the matter, but was shocked by what he saw of our dedication to fight the case no matter the odds. When we insisted, he told us that the police refused to register his complaint, a news which came to us as a shock.

We went to an activist, a prudent and passionate journalist, Jamila Obiano, working with Albarka Radio for direction on how to go about the matter. There she told us that, majority of the rape cases she was involved in, the perpetrators were close relatives or other people close to the victims. She also told us that, the instant case might not be any different. After a series of phonecalls, we were assured that the complainant would be registered. A path we took which entirely shortchanged the story.

Later that same day, Safiyyerh, who was so passionate about getting the culprit cut out of the society called the father to inform him of the development, but to our bewilderment, he outrightly complained that his elder brother advised that the matter be settled out of court and on an exclusive family table. That was something we never saw coming, but then, that unveiled the fact that, of course the culprit was known, but shielded by his victims. Disappointed by his actions and inactions, silence and utterances full of guilt, we resolved to let go of the case, a decision we dearly reversed to see where the story ends.

The next day, Safiyyerh called  and informed him of how his decision to settle the matter out of court would affect his society and subject other women to the same torture, probably his wife or his other children. His response? you'll not believe it. He shamelessly said; " I don't know why you keep pestering me on this. I told you, we don't need it. All these are a threat to my life. You don't know how I'm threatened by all these. Since the occurrence of this tragedy, myriads of threats have surfaced on my cup of tea. Please put this matter to bed." His words told us a story beyond the open. That either he's the culprit or he abates him. That was how the issue ended, maybe not only for his soul to rest but most importantly, because some of us believed that he was threatened by some external forces, and that being a family man, he should not be subjected to "undue torture"( their words). Putting an individual's interest over that of a whole community. Let me not forget! Prior to the instant case, myriads of such cases were recorded and even now, rape is a work in progress in Darazo.

This is one out of a thousand cases in which the victims abate the culprit. Sometimes for fear of stigmatization, but mostly because the culprit occupies a ventilated and well furnished abode in the nation of their hearts. Both excuses are baseless and unethical, clueless and disfigured.

I am at the threshold in the fight against rape and rapists, but with the unveiling circumstances, the fight seems all in vain since the victims seem happy and satisfied with the atrocity. We can't keep living in a community devoid of vision and purpose. We can't continue to shield under the veil of pity, culture and religion to harbour and abate criminals. We must find it convincing to excuse the victims against our aimless stigmatization and uncultured pity. We have to treat them as we treat our dear ones. They are not monsters, but surely the victims of an uncalled cruelty.

Unless we change how we treat the victims, they would continue to shield the culprits, and without the culprits, ours would always remain an exercise in futility. This is a fight against all of us, for we all have a part to share in the blame. We are the architects of our rift.

AREWA MUSIC INDUSTRY

The word ‘Arewa,’ is a Hausa term that means ‘North.’ The people of that particular geographical location of Nigeria refer to themselves as ‘Yan-arewa’ or ‘Mutanen Arewa,’ to mean ‘Northerners’ or ‘People of the North.’ Thus, the Hausa people and language being the predominant and most populous in northern part of Nigeria, connotes to the people, their shared culture and environment.
Therefore its popular usage in contemporary Nigeria suggests a northern Nigerian regionalism or proto-nationalism. Moreover, in contemporary usage, "Arewa" is simply a Hausa language term meaning "northern" or "northerners."
For centuries Hausa has been the predominant language of commerce, governance, religious and cultural interactions among the people of this region. By the mention of Arewa you are referring to these particular people and region.
Having laid the bed of our discussion, we are delving properly into our main topic of discuss which is the Arewa Music Industry,
Over the last four decades, the Arewa Music Industry has done well in terms of creating and disseminating awareness on both the international and local musical fields. Since from the legendary times of the likes of Mamman Shata Katsina, Alhaji Musa Dan Kwairo, Sani Sabulu, Haruna Uji, Barmani Choge, Abubakar Ladan, Sani Aliyu Dandawo, Alhaji Ali Makaho, Sani Dan Indo, Hajiya Fatima Lolo and many more. These mentioned names, have in one way or the other inspired our today's-Arewa-artists and build a reputational legacy or an iconic virtue for the next generation of Arewa musicians through their legendary contribution.
From the time of these legends, Arewa Music Industry has been one of the greatest music industrries that maintains and promote culture, ethics, decency, morality, discipline, education and enlightenment of the Hausa hosts communities.
The Arewa music system has also served as a tool which the government and traditional stakeholders disseminate information and awareness to the Hausa communities. This tool has been one of the most effective platform that was used to unite the people of the north (The Arewa’s).
But with the advent of technology and inheritance of westernization, today the Arewa Music Industry has transformed to something far beyond nominal Hausa culture, the style and traditional, ethical order of Arewa.
The industry having now become a huge platform, has been experiencing so many changes in varieties of musical patterns, ranging from the hausa movie songs, the Engausa (a mix in usage of Hausa and English language words), the hausa poem words play and the latest one called Hausatrap music, and so much more to mention.
The Arewa music system has kept on evolving day in day out, as the artists are pushing everyday to merge it to global level. These artists are developing and increasingly experiencing high numbers of its artists trooping into the system with love and passion for the game.
In another development, some of this Arewa descendants ranging from its people, political leaders, religious clerics, traditional rulers and even stakeholders and authorities governing the laws of the region are seeing this Arewa music industry revolution as an abomination and unethical. This is because, the revolution has brought about a vast change in the hausa music styling and coordination, which has grossly affected the culture and traditions of the region. To their protest the artist have taken out all the basic hausa music styling system and its values, thereby making it odd and unacceptable according to the people and dictates of the region. Accepting and including the western way of delivering their music messages has made it so awkward and inappropriate with accordance of the hausa original music system. These authorities and stakeholders are seeing this effect from the ways the artists are writing their music, the lyrics and verses, the mode of dressing and even performing these songs to the general public. These are some of the reasons why the new music system has not yet been fully recognized or accepted in the region and other parts of the country as a tool of entertainment and a way of eaning a living to the artists.
For the past twelve years, all these Arewa nowadays artists have been pushing harder to get this recognition and feel of acceptance from the people within the region and beyond, but all efforts proved abortive. Some of these artists have gone to the extent of relocating to other parts of the country to pursue the music career and get recognition but all in vain. While some have been making possible ways to get a record label contract deal, yet no productivity.
In my view, and suggestions collated during an investigation of the problems of Arewa Music Industry and its artist from various people, artists and concern stakeholders, we have unanimously came up with a tactical procedures and way forward to resolving this issue which will intensively be more productive to the Arewa music industry, music business proprietors and the artists at large. The Discovery of "The 8th wonder".

.
"The Travel Guide's" expeditions through "The Conquer Tribes Adventures" have continued to explore yet more wonderful tourist attractions within and outside Bauchi State. These expeditions are carried out by the company's team of relentless adventurers whose curiosities drives them to search for epic locations wherein both excitement and serenity could be found.
.
The most recent discovery made by the team is an old river which has now reduced to a stream. This remarkably flowing stream lies some 22km away from Bauchi metropolis. Bobindi, a small village along Waya Dam is where the stream cuts through down to Jinkiri, where farmers around the area use this water as a source of irrigation. Although the distance of this stream's route is yet to be known by us, the width between the banks is approximately 50fts apart. But the water doesn't fill up the entire space, it only flows narrowly through some routes. I am guessing the effects of the climate change.
.
But this stream isn't just what we discovered. There's a rocky point on which the stream is somewhat logged in. This rocky space has a geological form that we are yet to apprehend. We found on the rock multiple smoothly carved holes that seem to serve as little reservoirs. These holes and curvey shaped carvings are just too stunning for the eyes to resist, and in some of them there's some reserved water perhaps from the recent rain falls. This point, as we enquired from the locals is called, "Mashayar Boka" (The sorcerer's bar).
.
Miraculously, the stream cuts between the aggregate cracks of this rock form and in between the crack lies an approximately 15fts deep water bed, wherein the beauty of this rock is converged in an excellent manner. Oh, and before I forget, there are little caves within the rock too.
.
The environs of this location is absolutely calming and serene. It is filled up with damp air, various sounds of birds' chirping and the sound of flowing water. The warm and humid breeze leaves one with nothing but a feeling of joy and peace. Gundis, a team member of the Conquer Tribe named it, "The 8th wonder of the world".
.
Frankly speaking, one cannot express the sweetness of swimming in this amazing stream. Everyone must take a dive to understand the euphoria to which we allude.
.
Upon the discovery of this place, we received information about another place that is said to look similar, yet more wonderful and beautiful, to this place. This other place is said to be located some 3km away from Yankari Game Reserve near a small town called Gar. Perhaps this would be the "Wizards den", LOL.
.
The Conquer Tribe Adventures under the supervision of The Travel Guide's expeditions, aims to embark on another expedition this coming weekend, yet to unravel the hidden wonders and beauty of this place... Do stay tuned, for more is coming your way.
